I think I need to expand my reading list here but but I'm extremely shy and sometimes it's a bit scary. I am more comfortable using this place to write my thoughts but the social part is a bit difficult everywhere, so... yeah

DW functions a little differently from other places, I think. When you subscribe, it usually just means you find the posts interesting, not an expectation that you be friends or actively comment.

You can also pop over to other ppl's journals and read their reading page, or go to the comms you are in and read the members posts! Paid accounts get network page as well (friend of friends), so if you want, you can check out my network page here for example: https://geraineon.dreamwidth.org/network

Yeah, I think maybe it's because I haven't explored much and I'm gonna try to do that more. And knowing subscribing doesn't really sets an expectation helps a lot. Thank you for the advice and suggestions! I'm still learning how to do thing here. At least the part of posting isn't that hard :P

I just wanted to second this. The old flist on LJ did come more with a set of expectations or at least people felt that way.

The fact that you can subscribe without a 'gate keeper' of any kind does set low expectations. My only expectations of anyone who subscribes to my journal is that if they do comment and/or interact with others on one of my journal posts they're polite to each other, even if they disagree. That's it, that's my expectation. Pretty much the same as I expect of people in my living room. I will add, that if you're looking to expand your circle my circle is full of lovely type people.

That's another helpful tip. And now that I've posted more and know a bit what to expect and how this site works, I think it would be easier for me to write that.
